Pneumatic Tube close-ups

The photographs below are of the system on display at the Cumberland Toy and Model Museum, Cockermouth.

Cylinder from pneumatic tube system

One of the carriers. Note the number to identify which salespoint it belongs to. The leather-covered ends were to provide the air seal in the tube seal and perhaps to soften the impact as the carrier travelled round bends or reached its destination.

Inlet to tube The inlet where the cylinder would be placed into the tube.

Exit from tube

The exit from the tube, showing a carrier dropping into the basket. The exit is normally covered by the felt-covered door but the door is forced open by the carrier.
